For the races, are we limited to racing only in our USAC category? I’m generally a “B” but my USAC cat would require me to be a C this year until I can get upgraded.
It’s usually okay to ride a category up – just not down. I’ll ask our officials about this to be sure it’s still okay, but I don’t expect any problems.
Announcing the MiSCA cyclocross races for 2012. As you may have heard, MiSCA is branching out to include cyclocross races where we will award medals to the top three MiSCA junior racers in the male and female 11-14 and 15-18 classes. Similar to the MTB races, to be eligible racers must have their USAC junior licenses and be part of a recognized MiSCA team.
One of the benefits of holding a USAC annual license is that there is no $10 single day license needed that otherwise is added to the entry fee at ‘cross races. Do three ‘cross races and you have the license paid for!
The races to be included are:
Oct 27 Tailwind LOHS
Nov 18 Swamp Thing II Lansing
Dec 9 Big Bad Wolf Midland
Since these are late fall races this will give those who couldn’t participate in the mountain bike races a chance to race. Next year we hope to include even more races in the MiSCA cyclocross schedule.
Well, as the absolute oldest guy (67) racing CX in the state, I say I’m entitled to my rant. I always have the dilemma of deciding which class to race in. The National Championship for 65 and up groups are 30 minutes, so generally I race whatever class is 30 minutes even if it is a 35+ class! I’ll probably race every SOA race anyway, but I just saw that points only for top 15. WTF
You raise a good point Dennis. I think this becomes significant if we are giving points to folks who might not participate in as many series races. I will talk with the other promoters and see what we can figure out.
If the goal is just to recognize the winners or the top 5, then you’d really only need to give point to say the top TEN in each race. If the goal is to increase attendance at all of the SOA races, then it makes more sense to give points all the way up and down. I can’t speak for everyone of course, but take a series like Gratton that scores points for all the riders. I’m sure there’s as much “racing” going on for 20th place in the series as there is for 1st.

” . . . as much racing going on for 20th place in the series as there is for 1st.”
And that’s what ‘cross is all about!
Hey Michael,
When will you be submitting results to USAC?
I am guessing that finalizing the results with them needs to happen prior to updating the series results.
This Sunday is the last race of the season….
